Petrojarl Kong has successfully started production from Eni’s Baleine field

Today, Altera Infrastructure’s Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel, FPSO Petrojarl Kong has started production on Eni’s Baleine field located in the waters offshore Côte d’Ivoire.

The FPSO Petrojarl Kong previously operated under the name Voyageur Spirit on the Huntington field in the North Sea until 2020. The Petrojarl Kong, that earlier this year completed field specific modifications and lifetime extension works at the Drydocks World in Dubai, has a production capacity of 40.000 barrels of oil per day. The FSO Yamoussoukro, converted from the Altera shuttle tanker Nordic Brasilia, will provide additional storage capacity and oil export facilities at the field. From completed feasibility study until first oil it has passed less than 24 months.

Executive Vice President, Projects, Arne H. Tørnkvist, said: “This accomplishment highlights Altera’s ability to successfully manage and deliver large-scale, complex projects, also at fast track, with a clear focus on safety and quality.  The FPSO and FSO projects combined have required over 11,5 million manhours without any Lost Time Injuries.

The Petrojarl Kong is installed for the second phase of the Eni’s Baleine field and will increase field production to 60,000 bbl/d of oil and approximately 70 Mscf/d of associated gas, which is entirely exported to satisfy local demand.

Altera owns and will operate both vessels on the Eni’s Baleine field with a 15-year firm contract.  Chris Brett, President Altera Infrastructure Production, stated: “This is a significant milestone for Altera’s first entry into West Africa, a region that continues to see high demand for FPSO developments. Altera’s new established base in Abidjan will be the operational centre for the FPSO and FSO. We aim to actively contribute and remain dedicated to the long-term growth and development of a thriving industry in the area.”
