John Mason has worked at Altera Infrastructure since 2012 and currently holds the role of operations readiness and assurance manager for the Petrojarl Knarr FPSO.

Day to day my role involves making sure that we are ready for when we begin operations on the Petrojarl Knarr FPSO, this involves working with different people across Altera and a variety of external parties including the client and vendors. As a result of this, no two days are the same and I really enjoy the variety and challenging nature of my role.

What is great about Altera is that it is quite a small organisation, which means that you get a chance to steer and drive things. Although we are small, we work on exciting and important projects. For example, Rosebank is going to become a vital part of the UK oil and gas portfolio, and I am very proud of our work on the project. The team is doing great work with a focus on reducing production emissions, and I believe the Rosebank development is going to positively influence how we produce oil and gas in the future.

The other stand out thing about Altera is the culture and the opportunities you get. Throughout my time at the company I have embraced the opportunities offered to me and as a result learned a lot quickly. I cannot imagine a better role within the sector than working for Altera on the Rosebank project, it’s a great thing to be a part of.
