Every Purchase Counts

Haagen Husbyn joined Altera in 2024. He is a Purchaser based in the Trondheim office. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Shipping Management from NTNU Ålesund and has recently completed his second Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Administration.
In my role, I support operations and projects across Altera. I am also involved in indirect spend and various needs in the day-to-day office operations. Since joining, I’ve found the things move very fast, and there is always something happening across the organisation, which makes the workplace engaging. This has given me valuable experience across both project and operational work. I have also had the opportunity to work across different parts of the organisation, which brings new challenges and helps me understand how everything fits together.

A typical working day varies, but usually includes sourcing materials, evaluating supplier bids, ensuring efficient communication with offshore teams and suppliers, and coordinating logistics. I also take part in purchasing activities related to the offices and indirect spend particularly in Trondheim, and support early-phase project activities.
What I find interesting in my role is the variety of tasks, and see how it directly supports offshore operations, as well as being involved in major projects with significant impact. I value the opportunity to visit different offices and gain a better understanding of our projects and operations. Working with colleagues from different cultures and backgrounds is equally rewarding. The multicultural environment in Altera brings different perspectives and I appreciate that it encourages learning.
