Altera Welcomes Børre Jacobsen as Director of CCS
Altera Infrastructure is proud to announce the appointment of Børre Jacobsen as Director of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), effective 1 November 2024. Børre brings nearly 30 years of experience in the energy sector, having held key leadership roles in finance, commercial, and asset management across the globe, including his recent role as Managing Director at Northern Lights JV.
Børre’s career in energy began in 1992 after graduating with a finance degree from Texas A&M University. He joined Shell, where he held a variety of senior roles, including in Shell’s LNG business in London and as corporate affairs director in Norske Shell. His work in commercial agreements and joint venture infrastructure has been instrumental in shaping key projects in the industry.
In March 2021, Børre became the first Managing Director of Northern Lights JV, the groundbreaking CO2 transport and storage project in Norway. His leadership has been pivotal in driving the success of Northern Lights, from its initial setup in 2020 through to its current role as a global leader in CO2 transportation and storage.
Børre Jacobsen is excited to bring this extensive experience to Altera’s CCS ambitions, particularly as he joins the Stella Maris and Harbour – Havstjerne CO2 storage project. Speaking on his new role, Børre shared:

Børre’s expertise in developing large-scale infrastructure and his deep understanding of carbon capture and storage make him a valuable asset to Altera. His leadership will play a crucial role in advancing Altera’s efforts to deliver innovative and scalable CCS solutions, driving the energy transition and reducing global carbon emissions.
